New Toyota Harrier Release - Nov 2013 Japan

Pricing is out - the models are a straight 2 ltr gasoline and a 2.5 Hybrid ( I was first told it was the other way around).

The top end Hybrid 2.5 Advanced Package model is 4.47 million yen including 5% consumption tax....plus on road registration fees and options.  It comes with a navi but not sure if it has English, rear camera, parking sensors etc - the Hybrid won't be available until January.   The 2 ltr gasoline Advanced package 2WD is 3.6 million yen plus on road costs/fees and options.  The 4WD (2ltr gasoline) is 3.789 million yen plus costs etc  Note:  The Hybrid is 4WD/AWD or what they call "E-Four".  The cheapest is the 2 ltr gasoline 2WD Grand model at a list price of 2.72 million yen plus registration fees etc.

The 2ltr gasoline will be available from early December....delivery time on both models will be about 10-12 weeks.  I think orders can be taken from now...the Toyota site says 2013 November Debut 

The models are from top down - "Advanced Package" "Premium" "Elegance" and "Grand".

Buying a Used or New Car in Japan

Looking to buy, lease or finance a car in Tokyo, Japan?

The process of purchasing a car in Japan can be very time consuming due to the car buying process.  You can not just simply sign and drive away.  The process in Japan requires that you provide a number of documents before you can even have a car transferred into your name let alone drive away.  Simply put - if you turned up at a used car dealership with all the documents required from you to buy and register a car in your name it would still take most dealers at least a week to prepare and deliver the car to you in your name.

Paper work needed...

Parking Permit - One of the documents you need is a parking permit.
In most place is Japan you need to provide a contract of a parking space in your name that is within two kilometers of your registered Japan address in order to be able to transfer or place a car into your name.  There are other documents needed as well - contact me at the numbers, email address below for details...

Driving Licence in Japan

You'll have to show proof of the issue date of your home licence. If it is not printed on the licence a letter from the issueing authorities stating the date when it was issued will be required. The se docs and your home licence will need to be translated - JAF (see the link above) does these translations for about 3,000 yen or so. Once you have these you will need to head to your local registration office to sit the tests to get the licence. Depending on what country you are from you may or may not need to do the actual road test. Koyama driving school should be able to assist in this area.

Looking for a great value 4WD (also comes in 2WD) SUV?

The Nissan Murano is a real good value SUV! The 3.5 ltr comes with leather and navigation! You can go and buy a foreign make SUV and pay three times the price and not really get much more except a "name brand label".

The Nissan Murano - a very very comfortable driver! Comes in a 3.5 ltr or 2.4 ltr version. The 3.5 ltr comes with leather and navigation (unless other wise arranged with the new Nissan dealership). It only comes with 5 seats. 4WD and 2WD versions are available.

You get great value for money here...compared to the foreign makes e.g. Cayenne etc the drive is as good (but hey yes the Porsche does go a bit better - but where you going that fast in Tokyo anyway)? The price tag is also great compared to the foreign competition. Nissan released a new version of the Murano...but the look has not changed much...some prefer the original look.

The only set back may be that for those who are not too confident negotiating the Tokyo small streets then this is not the car for you......go smaller! Apart from that the drive is very comfortable, the power is good (3.5ltr version) and the leather and navi give you the total package. I'd drive a Murano any time! Mick Lay.

Toyota Mark X Zio

This is a 2008 Toyota Mark X Zio. The Zio is a station wagon with an exta seat or two.....that's about it.

You can have a 6 seater or 7 seater. The rear two seats that is normally the trunk floor of a station wagon are very small...so if you are looking for a 7 seater with 1/2 decent size rear seats this is not your car. But if you occaisional may have to transport the neighbour's (small) kids then it may be a good trade off. There is a 2wd and a 4wd model.
